Endorphin Recall

Your body has been happy before. Really happy — the warm, full-bodied kind, where every cell seems to hum and your chest is light and a smile arrives without being summoned. Your body remembers that. It has the chemistry on file. This practice is about reaching for that memory not as an image, but as a feeling — and asking your body to release it on command. With repetition, the request stops being a request. The body learns to comply.

The Practice

  1. 01

Sit comfortably. Close your eyes. Take a few slow breaths and let your face soften.

  2. 02

Recall a moment when you were genuinely, physically happy. Not just pleased — flooded. A burst of laughter, falling in love, a victory, a hug, music that broke you open. Pick one.

  3. 03

Do not replay the scene like a film. Drop into the body of that moment. Where did the warmth start? Chest? Stomach? Face? What did your shoulders do? Your breath?

  4. 04

Hold the felt-sense, not the story. The story is the doorway, but the body is the room. Let the memory dissolve and keep only the sensation it brought.

  5. 05

Now ask, silently and without strain: 'Send it again.' A small warm wave. A flush in the chest. The corners of the mouth lifting on their own. Wait for it the way you'd wait for a faucet to warm up.

  6. 06

When even a trace arrives, do not grab it. Let it expand. Breathe into it. Smile — a real one, the one the body is already trying to make.

  7. 07

Repeat. Ask again. Each request teaches the nervous system that this state is available, not accidental. You are training a switch.

  8. 08

Close by sitting in whatever warmth remains. Notice that you did not need anything to happen to you to feel this. You produced it.

Happiness is not only a response to the world — it is also a chemistry your body knows how to make. The more often you ask for it deliberately, the shorter the distance between asking and arriving. Eventually the body answers before the question finishes.
